The InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has pursued an asset-light strategy that allows it to grow businesses while achieving high returns on invested capital. In 2019, it agreed to acquire the operator for $300 million, with an additional $100 million in cash and $200 million in debt. IhG has acquired a number of luxury hotels in the USA and Europe, adding the world's fastest growing luxury hotel business to its portfolio.
The brand joins IHG's other suite brands, including Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suite, and accounts for over 80% of the company's total suite business in the United States. The brand had fallen out of favour with its previous owner, Bass Hotels, but Bass has since resumed business under the name Crest Hotel. Several of its pubs offer overnight accommodation, as well as several enlarged company pubs with a total of 14,000 square metres of space.
By contrast, IHG manages about 90% of its hotels in emerging markets such as China and about 80% in the United States.
